Frequently Asked Questions
What if I am considering applying to an Academy, but I need more information?
If you are interested in attending an Academy, reach out to Devon for a consultation where you can discuss your goals and questions. She can direct you to additional resources that will help you make decision about your future.
What are ALL of the requirements in order to be admitted to a Service Academy?
Great question. Here’s a list of the steps required for admission:
-Congressional Nomination (from Senator or House Rep)
-Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA, a physical fitness test)
-Medical Review Board (health assessment)
-Application to desired Service Academy
I am available to help with questions and completion of EACH of these steps and requirements.
How early should I start thinking about my application to a Service Academy?
That depends. When assessing your candidacy, selection boards will look at all aspects of your high school experience starting from your freshman year. However, the application process for congressional nomination and Academy application usually start at the end of you junior year.
What type of classes and extra curricular activities are desirable for my application?
In short, AP/IB/Honors classes are desirable for preparation and application to a Service Academy, as long as they are manageable. Varsity sports, Student Government, Boys’/Girls’ State, Eagle Scouts/Girl Scout Gold Award, and community involvement are some of the main activities that are sought out in Academy candidates.
What type of preparation program or visit should I do before attending an Academy?
There are a variety of options that allow you to experience what life at an Academy is like before you decide to attend. These include summer programs like Summer Seminar and AIM, or overnight/day visits. You can discuss with Devon what your best option may be.
I have been accepted to a prep school; should I pursue that option?
Academy prep schools are a great option, and if you have been selected to one, that is a great way to prepare for Academy life and work on your application for the next year. If you are considering prep school, Devon is a great resource to use during your time there to perfect your resume, essays, and interview for Academy admission.
I sent in my application and was not selected; can you help with that?
Absolutely. Devon is available to review your submission and give meaningful feedback and editing so you can be better prepared for your submission for the next year.
Can you review my submissions even if I have already submitted my application(s)?
Of course. Even if you are already in the process for Congressional nomination or Academy admission, I am available to review your submissions and provide “mock scoring” and mock interviews so you will have an idea of how you stack up as a candidate. It may also help you with consequent or future applications.
